Delirium

Author: Lauren Oliver

Main Characters: Lena Holoway, Alex, Hana

Fave Quote: “You can’t be happy unless you’re unhappy sometimes”~ Hana

Synopsis

Before scientists found the cure, people thought love was a good thing. They didn’t understand that once love — the deliria — blooms in your blood, there is no escaping its hold. Things are different now. Scientists are able to eradicate love, and the government demands that all citizens receive the cure upon turning eighteen. Lena Holoway has always looked forward to the day when she’ll be cured. A life without love is a life without pain: safe, measured, predictable, and happy.

But with ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena does the unthinkable: She falls in love.

Review

Delirium was recommended to me by a friend. I looked into it and found that it has good ratings and good reviews. So I decided to give it a shot—and it was definitely one of the best choices I made.

Delirium is another dystopian novel which has a very interesting plot. In the story, Love is considered a disease. (Yes, like cancer or the flu) When you’re of age, you will be cured, meaning you will no longer feel love, and you will go through your life like robots: empty but functioning. Lena, the main protagonist cannot wait for the day when she will be cured. She saw what Amor Deliria Nervosa (Love disease) did to her mom, who is now dead. She doesn’t want to be like her, so she counted the days and waited patiently to be cured. But everything changes when she meets Alex. She learns the truth, and now all she wants is to be infected with this disease and to be free from the lies she has believed in all her existence.

Lauren Oliver is a genius. Why? Because she realized something that has been right under our noses this whole time: Love is the deadliest of all deadly things. I’m glad that she wrote it into a book, reimaging a world where Love is a disease which all of us are deprived of. I love how she explains Love to be the sole reason why people don’t progress; it makes us reckless, it clouds are mind thus refraining us from making right and good choices. You know, those kinds of things. But being loved or in love is the best feeling in the world. It gives us a sense of purpose, and gives meaning to our life. Although it’s only a fiction novel, I kind of think it to be factual, in a way.

“Love will kill you and save you, both.”

Oh btw, the ending…. WHOA.

Rating: 5!

Delirium is deliciously pleasing. Beautifully written and plotted. I am definitely infected with Amor Deliria Nervosa, and I don’t plan on getting cured. 😉

Stargazer

Main Characters: Bianca Olivier, Lucas Ross, Balthazar More

Fave Quote: We have to remember that life is to be lived one day at a time. You cannot worry about past or future. Happiness is in the now.” ~ Bianca

Bianca’s secrets will force her to live a life of lies.

Yet Bianca isn’t the only one keeping secrets. When Evernight is attacked by an evil force that seems to target her, she discovers the truth she thought she knew is only the beginning….

Review

Stargazer is full of romance and jealousy. What an awesome combination, eh? Let me explain why.

In Stargazer, Bianca and Lucas keep their relationship on the down low. Meaning they have to meet secretly, and not to mention rarely. Bianca cannot always sneak out of the Academy and Lucas cannot always leave Black Cross, so they meet rarely. Balthazar helps Bianca to get away from the Academy whenever she and Lucas has to meet. He pretends to be her boyfriend so that the others wouldn’t suspect Bianca and Lucas’ relationship. Here’s where the jealousy part comes in. Balthazar has a thing for Bianca and this makes Lucas uncomfortable. There are parts where they had a fight..well mostly just yelling at each other but it’s still a fight.

Bianca and Lucas face a great challenge in their relationship in Stargazer.

Stargazer is full of emotion. I loved reading it.

Review

After reading “Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports” I went back to the library to find another Maximum Ride book. It turns out they have book 5, so I grabbed it from the shelf and borrowed it. And boy, was I surprised to find it even more fun and exciting.

The Flock ventures to save Max’s mother, Dr. Martinez, who was kidnapped by Mr. Chu, the leader of the bionic assassins whom Max calls M-geeks.They go on a submarine on a mission to beat the M-geeks and save Max’s mother.

In this installment, Max’s and Fang’s relationship grows stronger.. and Max quoted that she loves Fang. :> Add up their underwater adventure, romance, and environmental awareness, it equals to a perfectly written YA read. Awesome!

MAX is exhilarating to the max!!!

Review

If I were to give you a word to describe the The Last Olympian , I wouldn’t be able to give you one; unless you have a word for AMAZING, BRILLIANT, AWESOME, WOW..I think that sums up not just the last book but the whole series as well.

The novel takes place a week before Percy’s 16th birthday (which is also the day of the war) You will see a lot of battle scenes, deaths, and betrayals. I don’t want to give anything away for the story is more enjoyable if you know absolutely nothing of what’s going to happen… So I’m going to stop now 😛

The Last Olympian is the ending I dreamed of for the Percy Jackson series. When I read the last sentence of the novel, I was like “WHOA!” This was the first time I felt sad in finishing a novel… I wanted more adventures from Percy Jackson…and luckily, the last chapter gave away a new prophecy. The prophecy which leads to the next Camp Half Blood Series. Yipee! Let’s hope it’s as great as PJO.

The Percy Jackson Series (for me) is the best series of all time! haha! The Last Olympian is a brilliant ending! Such exquisite detail and plot… Amazing! I’ll say that again.. AMAZING!!!

The Son of Neptune Cover Revealed!

From the author of the #1 New York Times best-selling series- Percy Jackson and the Olympians, comes the much-awaited sequel to The Lost Hero! Here is the cover of SON OF NEPTUNE!

When I found out that the cover was revealed, I immediately switched on my computer & looked for it. 😛 When I found it, I think my heart skipped a beat. The cover is so intriguing, I cannot wait to see what  lies beneath them. Rick Riordan is one of my most loved authors, and the Percy Jackson Series is my favorite series of all time! So it wouldn’t be a surprise that this new series, The Heroes of Olympus, will be a great hit too! We already had a taste of it when the first book ,The Lost Hero, was released last year… and let me just say that Riordan knows how to step it up. The Heroes of Olympus series is double the adventure, double the humor, double the characters, and of course double the Myth…it’s time for us to see what ROMANS can do 😉

For a sneak peek of the book, you can read it here.
