Falling in love with English Boys

Author: Melissa Jensen

Main Characters: Catherine Vernon, Katherine Percival, William Percival

Fave Quote: “Is love meant to make us feel like fools?”~Katherine

Sixteen-year-old Catherine Vernon has been stranded in London for the summer-no friends, no ex-boyfriend Adam the Scum (good riddance!), and absolutely nothing to do but blog about her misery to her friends back home. Desperate for something-anything-to do in London while her (s)mother’s off researching boring historical things, Cat starts reading the 1815 diary of Katherine Percival her mom gives her-and finds the similarities between their lives to be oddly close. But where Katherine has the whirls of the society, the parties and the gossip over who is engaged to who, Cat’s only got some really excellent English chocolate. Then she meets William Percival-the uber-hot descendant of Katherine-and things start looking up . . .

I was having second thoughts on grabbing another novel by Melissa Jensen, but I saw this and looked into it. It had good reviews and  pretty good ratings on Goodreads. So I said “what the heck?” …… And I was certainly not disappointed.

Everyone loves Europe! So add up London, British hot boys, and two girls from different centuries, that would equal to an amazing read. So, the title speaks for itself… it’s about falling for English boys, which is exactly what the two protagonists in the story did. Present day Catherine Vernon is a 16-year-old American who spent the summer in London with her mother who is doing historical research in the British Museum. Katherine Percival (from the past) is an 18-year-old girl who just wishes to be fancied by some guy she liked and to be loved by her dad. So Cat and Kat have a lot similarities. I think the whole novel is genius! It’s like reading two books in one. The narration is in the form of a blog (for Cat) and diary entries (for Kat) which made it more fun to read.

It’s hard to choose from the two stories, because I loved the both of them! I love the ending, the plot, and the sweet stuff. When I was reading Katherine’s diary entries, I felt like I was reading Pride and Prejudice (which is one of my favorite novels) and with Catherine, I just love how funny her blogs are! It’s a great novel, but there are sill dull parts in the beginning…but when you get to the middle, that’s when the story start to kick in. Trust me. Give the book a chance and you won’t be sorry. 🙂

Rating: 4
